A great continuation to the list. Thanks for the reference to "La Chasse Aux Microbes" which I'd never heard, but now adore. Also despite listening to a lot of those 100 Tangerine Dream albums, I've yet to listen to Sorcerer, which is odd. I heard someone recreating "White Eagle" the other day, not intentionally, it was very adjacent. And 20 years too late but can I add a cheeky plug for https://thejwa.bandcamp.com/album/music-from-the-spheres ...
Super generous article, sooo much fun! Delighted once again to read everything. Thank you so much and am so excited to check out these fab listed musicians.
I forgot to add the title of the pictured sculpture which is "The Minstrels of Bremen". This sculpture animated my 3200 square foot immersive forest travelling installation, La forêt noire (Die Schwarzwald) https://youtu.be/gPOMoUBkDow?si=vlci24fsCpqKOlfp
This "The Minstrels of Bremen" sculpture animated La forêt noire (Die Schwarzwald). I am mixed race and my heritage includes Scandinavian/North Germanic ancestry. I often work with forests and forest lore. The installation explored multiple themes including the relationship that many cultures have with forests. Did you know the word “panic’ has its roots in the widespread human fear/terror that travellers may have in forests. Panic comes from the Greek panikos, the name of the god Pan, who was known to be the trickster creating mysterious woodland noises that caused the sudden fear and urge to run. Die Schwarzwald/Black forest/La forêt noire found in southwestern Germany has many stories, myths and legends. One legend was that to cross the forest was to enter into another magical realm/universe.
"The Minstrels of Bremen" was inspired by the work of artist Gerhard Marcks who created a similar stacked animal sculpture in 1953 in his hometown of Bremen.T his sculpture was a nod to the Brothers Grimm collected fairy tale of "The Town Musicians of Bremen" (Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten). In my version, the donkey has become more of a long-legged rabbit creature. I carved this sculpture with a chainsaw when I was 7,5 months pregnant with my son Inigo and had way too much energy and consequently terrified many people at the woodshop!
O! And I suggested this image as was thinking about the influence of Krautrock in my life and art practice. I am much influenced by too many things, including the films of Wim Wenders, Wings of Desire is a favourite. Wim Wenders often used Krautrock in his films, Kings of the Road / Im Lauf der Zeit /In The Course of Time (1976) the German road movie directed by Wim Wenders featured the music of the German krautrock group Improved Sound Limited.
