Ben you know I love your work and respect your taste, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on the "best mix set ever" one. The answer *has* to be Coldcut's incendiary Journeys By DJ set and I'll die on that hill 😁

God knows though this is a topic I could bore someone rigid about for a LONG time. PC & Strictly's Blech 2 mix... James Lavelle (but really The Psychonauts) Cream Live mix... Dave Clarke's Elektro Mix X-Mix session.... Q-Bert's Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Music.... SO MANY GREAT CHOICES!!

Keep up the great writing sir!! 👏🏻

Hello Darren! This kind of debate is PRECISELY why I wrote the article so thank you very much for commenting.

I love Coldcut JDJ, Blech 2, "Lavelle"'s Cream mix and Dave Clarke's X-Max. They would maybe all be in my top 20. (DPSM I don't know. But I will definitely check it out.)

BUT for me a good DJ mix is about dancing. And NOTHING scratches that urge quite like the Cosmic Disco. When you add that to an incredibly inventive use of records it has to be number one!

Also, the Deep Dish Cream mix that came with the Lavelle one is gorgeous too!

One mix I only discovered via a colleague about a year ago was this Big Tent set from The Avalanches: https://soundcloud.com/willwillr/big-tent-set-2006-the-avalanches You say how that Cosmic Disco mix makes you just want to dance your ass off... well this is very much on those lines, but with absurd levels of "OMG are they actually playing that?!" track selections thrown in. If I told you that Def Leppard and Bros make an appearance you'd probably run a mile, but trust me, it's one of the most joyous party mixes ever made.

I keep joking with friends that if I was Elon Musk-levels of rich, I would 100% hire The Avalanches to play at my wedding (er, if me and my other half were to tie the knot that is!). They are the world's greatest wedding DJs, and I mean that as a compliment, heheh

thank you. Another one to check out. I think I saw DJ Dexter (??) DJing at the End in the early 2000s and he was fabulous. Joyous is always a good thing. And why not a bit of Bros.

I always wanted to get Teenage Fanclub to play at my wedding. But when I got married, I realised A) I didn't have the money to pay them. B) Teenage Fanclub probably don't play weddings. C) My wife didn't want Teenage Fanclub to play. And D) Neither did anyone else, apart from me.
