Great selection! I love these albums, I didn't know the one by The Arabs, great discovery, thanks.

King Tubby is one of my all time heroes and the Augustus Pablo album was a huge turning point for me, it opened my mind to new worlds.

I can't wait for the 2nd part, but I would probably add one from Scientist: "Rids the World..." with its classic cover.

There is also an amazing compilation by Virgin, "Front Line Dub", 40 tracks, released in 2014. Not an original album, though.

And I think the reason why the image in Baix Empordà made you think of dub is probably one of the many sleeves with this (or similar) picture of Selassie: https://www.popsike.pics/pix/20210402/124664381242_1.jpg ("Black Star", Congo Natty)

thanks Tom! Not long to wait now. It will be out in about 13 hours.

You may well find some Scientist there.

And, yes, that's a very good point about the sleeves.

Good picks.

Mikey Dread's "Dread At the Controls" & "African Anthem" are two British dub records that I recommend people, as well as Aswad's "A New Chapter of Dub".

Lately, I've been really heavy on Scientist—atypical and warped basslines that wouldn't feel out of place in British post-punk. "Flash Gordon Meets Luke Skywalker" and "Materialize" are amazing songs. Also, had the best titles out of anyone.

Great list and some I've never listened to before. I suggest giving Burning Spear Living Dub volumes 1 & 2 a listen. And one of my all time favorite artists and dub albums is LKJ in DUB.

Thanks for this.... well I think I thank you but my supposed to be shrinking record collection may not!

Really good to read Dennis Bovell being referenced. I have gotten into Dennis over the last few years and he has really opened up my musical world. Seems to have his fingers in every pie at some point!

If you get a chance to dance to him Djing go! Great voice, music and wonderful anecdotes. Remember - it's "wanting you" NOT "watching you" ;)

My ancient Victorian floor boards said "no more records I'm gonna break". It has been a, um, interesting process filtering out all my millennium funky house music.

Sufferer Sounds? Pukka!!

aha! I had to sell about half my record post haste when my parents moved house a few years ago. I still think about them now....

Thanks for these! I love Super Ape and Rockers Uptown. I'm also really into the early 1980s UK dub scene (On-U Sound and the likes).

With dub techno, I loved Basic Channel and Chain Reaction – I still regularly go back to Vladislav Delay's early works – but agree the style has become formulaic. That being said, there were still interesting things to be discovered within that framework after 1993. I agree Loidis isn't the best example of this (isn't it actually more microhouse- than dub-techno-influenced though?) but I think the whole 3XL/Motion Ward/West Mineral cosmos brings out interesting stuff somewhere between ambient and dub techno, and I also want to shout out Purelink.

thanks Stephan! There will be more modern things (including Basic Channel) in part two. No Vladislav Delay, though. Sadly! Loidis is very microhouse but he himself talks about it being dub techno. And he tends to be held up as an example of the dub techno revival!
